What is CrackAndReveal?
CrackAndReveal is an online tool that lets you create interactive virtual locks. You set a secret code and hidden content. Your participants receive a link, solve the lock on their phone and discover what's behind it.
Is it free?
Yes. CrackAndReveal has a free plan: unlimited locks and multi-locks, up to 30 total attempts, no credit card required. To go further: the Event Pass, a monthly subscription with no commitment ($9/month; €9/month in the eurozone), for unlimited attempts, and the Pro plan, a yearly subscription ($39/year; €29/year in the eurozone), which unlocks every feature.
How do I share a lock?
After creating a lock, you automatically get a short link and a downloadable QR code. You can also set a custom link. Share it via SMS, email or display the QR code.
What lock types are available?
Several types are available: Numeric, Directional, Pattern, Password, Colors, Musical, Geolocation and more. Additional types are planned for the future.
How many attempts does a participant get?
A participant can retry as many times as they want. On the free plan, however, the total is capped at 30 attempts across your whole account; upgrade to Pro for unlimited attempts. As the creator, you can see the number of attempts in your dashboard.
Is the hidden content secure?
The content is only revealed by the API after verifying the correct code. Codes are stored as bcrypt hashes on the server side. CrackAndReveal is designed for games and entertainment.
Can I use CrackAndReveal in the classroom?
Absolutely. Many teachers use virtual locks to gamify their lessons: hide a clue, an answer key, or a link to a bonus resource.
Can I integrate a lock into an escape game?
Yes, it's one of the main use cases. Print the QR code, integrate it into your scenario and let your players unlock the steps.
How do I edit or delete a lock?
Log in to your dashboard, find the lock in the list and click Edit. You can change the name, code, content or custom link.
What's included in the Pro plan?
The Pro plan (yearly subscription: $39/year; €29/year in the eurozone) includes: unlimited attempts, unlimited locks and multi-locks, competition mode, no watermark, iframe embedding, commercial use and priority support.
How do I upgrade to Pro?
From your dashboard, click 'Billing' in the menu, then 'Upgrade to Pro'. Payment is processed securely by Link, a Stripe service, and your Pro access is activated immediately. The subscription renews every year; you can cancel anytime.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. In 'Billing', click 'Manage my subscription': cancelling takes one click, no questions asked. The Event Pass has no commitment and Pro renews every year; you get a reminder at least 30 days before each yearly renewal. And for 14 days after subscribing, you get a full refund on request.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep your access until the end of the period you've already paid for, then your account switches back to the free plan. Your locks are kept, the watermark comes back, competitions are turned off and the 30 total attempts limit applies again. You can resubscribe anytime.
Is my data protected?
We collect the minimum necessary data: your email for authentication and IP addresses of attempts. We do not sell any data.
